The day when your cell phone turns into your PC

Designer James Piatt has introduced these new prototypes for a future concept phone called the “Plica” in answer to the cell phones industry arriving at a crossroads between small phones and big screens. This phone could double as a sub-notebook computer and would utilize both the Apple iPhone implementation of an all touch screen and the run of the mill clam shell design so popular in phones today.

Another new concept design, called the “OLPC” is a folding tablet design which can be used by more than one person. It’s designed to operate as a full screen tablet, a traditional split keyboard/screen view, a book mode and a two person configuration. When will these be available for purchase? Not anytime soon, however you can follow the progress of upcoming technologies like these and many more at the Computer World Blog IT Watch.

Can they have a phone that just makes phone calls? I want a phone that just makes phone calls. Now if you want to put a personal computer in my watch, that’s another story. I’m not sure the lightweight design allows for microprocessors, though.
